Graduates say...

...on the teaching:

It gave me a real insight into life as a solicitor.”

They don't take on that many students, so it's easy to access one-on-one support.”

The staff are relaxed, friendly and personable, and they all know you individually.”

It was more useful in practice than other providers; Sheffield does more than coach you through the exams."

...on getting a job:

Over half the people in my class didn't have training contracts and they spoke highly of the careers service.”

It doesn't have the reputation in the marketplace that the big providers have, which is a real shame.”

Chambers says...

Students at this Northerner enjoy a low staff-student ratio, and impressively low fees for a university with a redbrick pedigree. The LPC hits a good balance between flexibility and specialisation, offering a broad enough range of electives to cater to students who want to keep their options open, plus the opportunity to study core modules from a commercial or high-street perspective. We think that Sheffield's focus on teaching students about the wider commercial context in which they'll practise is welcome, given that many law schools simply coach students through the exams. What's more the course is now an MA in Legal Practice, meaning students are eligible for the government's Postgraduate Master’s Loan. On the course, students still get the vocational qualification but now complete a dissertation.
