Firm profile

A few years ago a legal magazine described us as ‘one of the UK’s most distinctive legal practices’. So, what is it that makes us distinctive? What makes us tick, of course, is legal expertise. Our high profile clients expect us to be brilliant, whether we are corporate, commercial or litigation lawyers, so we put a lot of effort into helping our lawyers be the best they can throughout their careers – not just at the start of it. Over the past two years, we’ve grown rapidly, worldwide and now have 19 united offi ces throughout Europe and the US. For our clients, it means that we are on the ground with local legal expertise, when they need us; and it adds an exciting international dimension to much of our work. The sectors we work in all thrive on technology, energy and innovation: digital business, energy, financial services, life sciences, real estate, recruitment or transport. Our sector teams include lawyers from all legal disciplines, so in our structure expertise, insight and enthusiasm go hand-in-hand. The final piece in the jigsaw is our culture. When we asked our recent recruits what attracted them to OC, they used words like ‘friendly’, ‘inclusive’, ‘open’ and ‘fun’. To our clients we are ‘approachable’, ‘proactive’, ‘understanding’ and ‘formidable’. For us, our culture is all about building relationships, gaining and providing insights and getting valuable results for our clients and our people. We like to think that our culture underpins our exceptional track record.

Main areas of work

Main areas of expertise include; banking and finance, business regulation, commercial, corporate, employment and benefits, litigation, pensions, projects, real estate, restructuring and insolvency and tax.

Trainee profile

Osborne Clarke LLP is looking for candidates who can: communicate effectively; think commercially and practically; solve problems creatively; build effective relationships; and demonstrate initiative. Foreign language skills are also an advantage.

Training environment

We group all of our trainee training and development into one coherent programme, which can be tailored to your individual needs. You’ll receive on the job training, dedicated technical workshops, all the IT and compliance training you need and personal development workshops. Throughout your training contract we want you to experience the broad range of work available at Osborne Clarke LLP. As a trainee, you’ll complete four seats: corporate or banking, real estate or tax, litigation, and one other. In each seat, a senior lawyer will supervise your day-to-day progress and give you regular feedback, so you know how you’re doing. They’re there to help you up your game. Every three months, you’ll have a formal progress review to help you track your development. Our trainees get lots of responsibility. And they find that it’s what differentiates their training contracts from others.

25 days’ holiday (plus a Christmas shopping day), pension, permanent health insurance, private medical insurance, life assurance and season ticket loan. GDL/LPC sponsorship and maintenance grant.

Vacation schemes

Each of our vacation scheme placements runs for two weeks over the summer and offers a great opportunity for candidates to really get to know the firm. The placement follows a structured programme which allows candidates to spend time in two different departments and get involved in real client work. Beyond work there are plenty of social events organised by our trainees.
