The City Law School is one of London’s major law schools offering an impressive range of academic and professional courses. The School was the first law school in London to educate students and practitioners at all stages of legal education.
The School’s prestigious Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) has an unrivalled reputation within the profession and was one of the first courses for non-law graduates. The Graduate Enty LLB (GE LLB) enables non-law graduates to gain an LLB in just two years. Both courses enable progession to the required professional legal skills courses - the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), both taught at our Gray’s Inn Place campus, as well as the opportunity to become more specialised, by studying for a Master of Laws (LLM).
Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) (full time)
Designed to enable non-law graduates to complete the first stage of academic legal training, this GDL is one of the largest and most respected GDL courses in the UK, and has a long-standing repuation with the Bar and amongst City law firms.
Graduate entry LLB (two years full time)
This well established conversion course for non-law graduates provides students with the opportunity to gain the required legal knowledge, whilst identifying and developing special interest subjects.
Bar Professional Training Course (full or part time)
As the founding provider of the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), The City Law School will teach you the skills and knowledge you will need for life as a successful barrister.
There are two City BPTC routes: the first leads to a Postgraduate Diploma through successful completion of the BPTC assessments. The second leads to a LLM and eligibility for Call to the Bar of England and Wales by successful completion of the BPTC assessments and a dissertation.
There is also a dedicated Pupillage Advisory Service exclusively for students, to help when applying for pupillage.
Legal Practice Course (full time)
The School’s Legal Practice Course (LPC) has been designed to ensure that you are fully prepared to meet the demands of the modern legal profession by helping you to master the vital skills and knowledge you need to be a successful solicitor. There are two City LPC routes. If you successfully complete the compulsory taught element of the course you will be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma and be certified as having completed Stages 1 and 2 of the Legal Practice Course. Alternatively, you may choose to complete both the LPC and an additional practice-focussed dissertation in order to achieve a master’s degree.
Master of Laws (LLM) (full time)
The Master of Laws (LLM) is a flexible programme which enables students to develop a critical understanding of specialist or linked areas of the law. Students embarking on the LLM are able to select from a range of different module electives to gain a general Master of Laws, or choose electives from specific modules, to specialise in a particular area of law. Specialisms include public international law, international banking and finance law, dispute resolution, international commercial law, international human rights law and more.
